Have you ever seen the movie “Groundhog Day”? If so, then you know exactly what I mean by “again”!. Let’s repeat Groundhog Day with a repost of my 2024 Groundhog Day post!
While you’re here, let me know in the comments: What is your favorite weather folklore, myth, or saying? Or what’s the one you wonder the most about?
It's Groundhog Day! Hug (and trust) a meteorologist.
It’s a week of celebrations for meteorologists! February 2 is Groundhog Day, and February 5 is National Weatherperson’s Day, sometimes lovingly called National Hug a Meteorologist Day.
This Month in Wilder Weather History
February 5, 1937: Laura Ingalls Wilder write to her daughter, Rose Wilder Lane, “There is snow over everything and the prospect good for more to come.” 1 In the heyday of long family letters, writers would often write for several days before sending the letter. February 5 fell on a Friday in 1937, but the quote was under a heading “Tuesday morning,” which would have been February 2, 1937. Wilder wrote from Rocky Ridge Farm in Mansfield, Missouri. In Springfield, Missouri, about 50 miles away, observers reported 1.0 inches of fresh snowfall. (And at least in Springfield, snow did not fall again until February 27, so the “prospect for more to come” did not materialize.)
