WILDER WEATHER Book Cover and Release Date Reveal!
Hot off the press - get the first peek here!
Spring is here, and with it comes all of the things I’ve come to associate with it: baseball, end-of-school-year activities, weather wonders, warmer temperatures, and… book deadlines.
Regular weather and climate newsletters will return, I promise. But this news was too good to wait.
Wilder Weather will be released by the South Dakota Historical Society Press on July 8! Preorders will open on June 1. I am excited! and terrified! and over the moon!
For my dear friends in Laura Ingalls Wilder, July 8 is also the first day of LauraPalooza 2025 activities in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I can’t think of a better place to be to release Wilder Weather than among my favorite Laura Ingalls Wilder scholars, hobbyists, fans, writers, and aficionados.
Without further ado, here is the gorgeous cover reveal for Wilder Weather.
Isn’t it beautiful?! My deepest gratitude to the team at the Press for this design. The artwork is the oil painting “Storm Front” (1933) by Harvey Dunn (1884-1952), a renowned artist born in Manchester, South Dakota. Yes, THAT Manchester - the one where Laura helped a young mother settle on a homestead in These Happy Golden Years, where Grace Ingalls Dow lived most of her adult years, and where an F4 tornado ravaged what was left of the town in 2003.
So, bear with me while I scramble to finish the last bits of editing the book and getting ready for its publication! I have lots of ideas floating around for weathery words, and I’ll be back to those soon! And I’ll be sure to post the direct preorder link as soon as it’s available!
Congratulations, Barb! This is such an exciting moment. A long-awaited project has come to fruition.
Congratulations!! Super excited for you (and for the book, too!!)
